TASTING NOTES

Vecchio Amaro del Capo is the flagship of the Fratelli Caffo distillery.  Distilled from sugar beets, then macerated with 29 herbs, spices, roots, fruits, and flowers from Southern Italy.

This digestivo italiano is complex on the palate, revealing bittersweet flavors of orange, chamomile, licorice, and juniper. Enjoy cold, at room temperature, or in cocktails, and see how the drink’s expressions change and develop as the temperature changes. It’s herbal aromatics begin to give way to warm fruity flavors and great acidity to balance.

Amaros have long been a favorite among the staff of the Wine Merchant and Le Bouillon, and the Vecchio Amaro del Capo has quickly found its way to top rank among this diverse and divisive spirit category. Think of it like an arranged marriage between Montenegro and Amaro Lucano! The sugar beet base lends a uniquely caramel and nougat-like finish when served at room temperature, while the sarsaparilla notes really come out served chilled and make for a heck of a spike to a root beer or cream soda. It tastes like the House of Gucci's Lady Gaga sipping espresso at a ski resort in the Andes looks - incredible.
